Pinterest for WordPress Blogs

A blog post peaks in Google within days. The same post pinned properly can still be driving traffic in two years — which is the entire reason to bother with Pinterest.

The case for Pinterest as a blogger is longevity. Search traffic to a post is decided quickly and decays. A pin behaves differently: it accumulates saves over months, and each save extends its distribution. Pins from two years ago routinely out-earn posts published last week.

That changes what you optimise for. Not virality — durability. Evergreen phrasing, boards that stay coherent, and a steady drip of new creatives pointing at posts you already published.

9 boards to create first

This is the structure to build before you pin anything. Every name is inside Pinterest's 50-character board limit and written to be searched for rather than to be clever — a board name is a topic signal that applies to every pin you put on it.

1

[Pillar 1] Tips & Guides

One board per content pillar. If your blog covers three main topics, that is three boards, not thirty.

2

[Pillar 2] Ideas & Inspiration

The inspiration counterpart to the how-to board — different search intent, same pillar.

3

Beginner Guides

"For beginners" is one of the highest-volume qualifiers on Pinterest, because it is where people go for things they have not done.

4

Checklists & Printables

Downloadables are among the most-saved content types and a natural email-list entry point.

5

Blog Post Archive

A catch-all for everything published. Not glamorous, but it means every post has a home.

6

Best of [Your Blog]

Your strongest posts, curated. Useful for new followers deciding whether to stay.

7

[Topic] for Small Spaces / Budgets

A constraint board. Constraints are how people search and they are far easier to rank for.

8

Seasonal [Topic]

Rotating board for anything with a calendar. Publish 30–45 days early.

9

Tools & Resources I Use

Natural home for affiliate content, and it ranks for product-comparison searches.

Replace anything in brackets with your own topic, city or brand. Name them with the free board name generator and fill the descriptions with the board description generator.

Article Rich Pins

Article Rich Pins show the headline and author in bold beneath the pin, which reads as more credible. Yoast, RankMath and most modern themes emit the required markup automatically — check yours with the Rich Pin validator and submit one URL to Pinterest to enable it for the domain.

The most common failure is a missing og:image, which leaves Pinterest choosing an image from the page. It usually chooses badly.

Multiple pins per post, over time

One post should produce several pins, released over weeks rather than all at once. Different images, different headlines, different angles. This is how bloggers sustain a daily pinning rhythm without writing daily.

What no longer works is repeatedly saving the same pin to different boards. Pinterest favours fresh images; recycling one pin is a tactic that stopped working years ago.

Write titles that outlive the year

Because pins last, dated phrasing is expensive. “Small Balcony Garden Ideas” works every spring. “2026 Balcony Trends” is dead by January and stays dead. The title generator produces evergreen structures by default.

Check where your pins land

Blogs restructure, slugs change, posts get deleted. Pins pointing at a 404 do not just lose the click — Pinterest observes the immediate bounce and reduces the pin's distribution. Audit your most important destinations with the link checker once or twice a year.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pinterest still worth it for bloggers?

Yes, mainly for longevity. Search traffic to a post decays within weeks; a pin accumulates saves over months and can still be driving traffic two years later.

How many pins should I make per blog post?

Several, released over weeks rather than all at once — different images and headlines emphasising different angles. That is how bloggers sustain a daily rhythm without writing daily.

Do I need Rich Pins on WordPress?

They are worth enabling. Yoast, RankMath and most modern themes emit the required markup automatically; you submit one URL to Pinterest once per domain.

Can I repin my own pins to multiple boards?

It no longer works well. Pinterest favours fresh images, so making a new creative beats resaving an old pin.

Should I put the year in pin titles?

Usually not. Pins keep driving traffic for years, so a dated title expires while an evergreen one keeps working.
