How the check works

  • Avoid dated words. “2026”, “new” and “official” age badly on something you keep for years.

  • Underscores and doubled letters — unspeakable and easy to mistype.

If your first choice is taken

What a check can and cannot tell you

This checks whether a public Pinterest profile currently exists at that handle. That is a strong indicator, and it is not a guarantee.

  • "Taken" is reliable — a profile is there.
  • "Available" means no public profile responds. It could still be reserved, held by a deactivated account, or blocked as a protected term. The only definitive test is trying to set it.

Reading the result sensibly

  • Taken by a dormant account — you cannot claim it. Pinterest does not release handles on request.
  • Taken by someone using your trademark — that is a trademark process, not a username problem, and it is slow.
  • Available but awkward — an available handle you have to spell out every time is not a win. Keep looking.
  • Available and boring — usually correct. Handles are for typing, not for personality; the personality goes in the display name and the pins.

  1. Say it aloud. If it needs spelling, discard it.
